Sponsor organizations

In 1978 seven sponsoring churches, along with the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta, founded AMIS and continue to support it financially and with volunteers. In 2016, Kiwanis Club members joined the board. Now, the following churches, along with area Kiwanis Clubs, make up the sponsoring organizations of AMIS.

  1. Ebenezer Baptist Church, HistoricEbenezer.org
    A leader in building bridges between people, Ebenezer was home to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
  2. First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, FirstPresAtl.org
    Reaching out across Atlanta and overseas, First Presbyterian was the original home to the AMIS office.
  3. Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Churchwww.mvpchurch.org                                                          Our newest sponsoring church, Mt. Vernon Presbyterian is a congregation filled with warmth and energy — people who are committed to spiritual growth through worship, study, fellowship and service.
  4. Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church, opcBrookhaven.org
    No stranger to higher education, Oglethorpe helped found Oglethorpe University in 1835, and continues to maintain a close relationship with the Oglethorpe and larger community.
  5. Peachtree Presbyterian Church, PeachtreePres.org
    Over 9,000 members strong, Peachtree Presbyterian houses the AMIS office as one of its many local and global missions.
  6. St. James United Methodist Church, StJamesAtlanta.org
    St. James is the central location for Atlanta’s Christmas International House program each December.
  7. St. Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church, StMartins.org
    St. Martin’s is a community church of  approximately 2000 members with strong family programs and many ways to get connected.
  8. The Presbytery of Greater AtlantaPresbyteryOfGreaterAtl.org
    Administrative organization for more than 100 Atlanta-area churches.
  9. Kiwanis International representativeshttp://www.kiwanis.org/  helping children and youth.
  10. North Avenue Presbyterian Church, www.napc.org, is a vibrant and growing downtown church with an international focus.

Representatives from each of these sponsoring organizations comprise our Board of Directors. Hundreds of volunteers of diverse faith backgrounds make our ministry a welcomed gift to international students and scholars. Our volunteers are blessed in return by the richness of international friendship.
